Cat problem

Hi I am thinking of putting some electric fencing on top of a six foot wooden fence to try and deter a pesky cat who is terrorising my chickens and using their sand dust bath as a toilet. Has anyone done anything similar if so does it work. Any other ideas welcome.

It would be cheaper to just trap and get rid of the cat.Now if you were going to do the electric wiring anyway then do it,but cats will find a way in. I say get rid of it. If it is your cat I would suggest a outdoor cat enclosure.It is a great way for them to have a safe outdoor spot,and they won't be able to cause any problems.

I would agree with the post above me.Mattemma, it's going to be extremely costly to have electric netting. Its much easier to go out and buy chicken wire, zip tie the wide ends together to make it wider as they its not very wide. Then i would stretch it across the top, this will help with your cat problem and prevent other pr editors such as birds (Hawks) and stuff to fly down and try to get them as well.

hi thanks for the tips. ref coons etc we don't have any round here thankfully. I live in the U.K. not sure if we have any at all. compared to some of you my problem is small.

Around here you can pick up a used battery powered electric fencer for a few dollars. You can then run a hot wire around the top of your fence, but you must also run a bare ground wire an inch or so from it. The cat must touch both at once. When this happens it will jump off the fence, but you don't know which SIDE it will wind up on....
