Cat won't leave chickens alone

We turned a hose on our cats and it worked with all but one so we bought a very dominant hen and she takes care of him. It's kinda funny to watch this sweet fluffy Cochin chase a cat around. The other day she chased him up the tree then sat at the bottom waiting for him to come down. The cats all stay away from the chickens now

We do have a chicken tractor.

That's a good idea with the water hose but then he will just wait till we are in the house and can't spray him. Do you think he will stop when they get bigger? I'm afraid that he won't because he has been around them since they were chicks. Would a bantom rooster be able to protect them? Thanks sooo much for your help.

I haven't been able to find anything else on the subject.

This or something similar might work when you are not around to spray him.

When we got our chickens, they were full grown. But our cat chased them around when he could get one singled out. I put the 5 hens in the coop, went and got the cat and threw him in with them. Took all of 10-15 seconds of him getting his butt kicked in that coop. When I opened the door he lit out of there like he was on fire. Now he sits on the deck overlooking the coop and chickens and just watches, but doesn't dare get on the ground. He's really a sweet cat, felt kind of bad afterward. Took him a week before he forgave me.

Hahahaha! That's hilarious! He will reach through and try's to catch one. They are only 2 months old. Do you think they would be able to kick his butt without him hurting one? They killed a mouse that wandered into the run this morning. Thank for all your help!

The hose is worth a try. It might take only one bad experience. Or start on a weekend and stake him out! The other option, if this is now a habit, is to remove him from the situation for a while. Can he be inside or confined somewhere for a week or so? That might change his routine.

I have 4 cats who are out. They hang with the chickens and mostly ignore them (chickens are full sized). The problem cat is more dog than cat (will come on walks in the woods, likes to patrol the yard at night with us) and mostly just chases a chicken briefly if one wanders too close. I still dont like it. I do want to have a camera ready once the roo matures and moves in with the girls!! That might be funny.

A friend of ours that raises exotics put each of the barn cats in a fishing net and dangled it in with the birds. He let the birds get some good pecks in, then released the cat back into the yard. His cats won't even look at anything with feathers.

My cat (the one in my avatar) use to chase the chickens but doesn't anymore. The chickens are 7 months old, and I am not sure when the tables turned, but the chickens chase him now. Even the lowest chickens on the pecking order, my 5, 4 month old leghorns chase him!!! My guess is that one of them must have kicked his butt because he is terrified of them. When i go to let him out in the morning, he won't go because there are usually chickens already on the porch (Our hen house has an automatic door that opens at sunrise, closes at dusk, and our house area is fence in, they have 2 acres but prefer the porch). Because the chickens are there, he lets out a baby mew and I have to carry him over the chickens and set him down in a safe place where he can make a run for it. There is nothing like watching an obese Speckled sussex with a limp waddle/limp after him!!!

This cat still catches mice, and even grouse, but those evil chickens are SCARY!

Those are good ideas! If I can find a net I'll try it! That's hilarious. He's only killed a bird once, a grackle, everything else has been mice. Thanks VERY much for your help!!!!
