I have a hen who is currently separated for broody-breaking, and when I was looking at her today (she's pretty skittish) I noticed tiny, grey circles in the middle of her pupils. They are pin-point, unfilled circles. I thought it was a reflection on her eye but they are in both eyes.

I can try and get a pic tomorrow, but for now does anyone know if these are cataracts or possibly something else? What can I do for her?

I should also mention that she isn't showing symptoms of anything, and appears to see just fine from what I can tell. Also, the spots are directly in the center of her pupils...is it possible it's the optic nerves?

in mareks disease the iris of the eye turns grey and doesn't react to light. I'm wondering if the pupil can be affected also. I'm sorry but I'm not sure of that. look up mareks disease and take a look at the eyes and see if its different than your describing. without a picture I'm not sure. however Mareks will turn an eye grey unfortunately. perhaps yours is something else but that is a disease that will turn the eye grey. but as i understand it its the IRIS that turns not sure about the pupil turning? maybe someone else knows if the pupil also turns or if its only the iris? how old is the chicken? maybe it is cataracts? sorry i couldn't be of more help. but do look up mareks and see if the eye is similar. that's the only disease I'm aware of that turns a eye grey.. i wish you the best of luck. hopefully with pictures you can rule out mareks. best wishes

She is vaccinated for Mareks and yes, it is NOT the iris, it's directly in the center of her eyes, completely symmetrical.
