Catching a Guinea

These things are just darn smart. I hate to say it, but I'm being outsmarted by a 2 year old guinea. Now, I just need to think like the bird...

Jackie does your girl have a particular treat that she just loves? I'm thinking that if there is a better area, using a coop or small out building and giving her the treats she can't live without. If your birds do treats have you listened to the sounds of pleasure they make while they're snarfing them down?

In the Spring my females can be a royal pain getting to come in at night. Once the males are in and talking away about the windfall of candy they rec'd the female or females can't help but join in on the feast. It might be more than he can stand once hears that sounds of joy coming from her.

Well, we've tried the favorites (popcorn and fish sticks), but they're on to us. The female is still unsure of her environment, but is getting to be okay (earlier this week she was calming down and making her usual noises). The male is still unsure of her and has the 'I guess you'll have to do' thought about her. ha! My rooster seems to fancy the other guineas her age - if my boy only knew what he was doing!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We may try the fishing net next week or the week after as we don't want to stir up any progress we may have made.

What about young guineas who have broken out of their pen? She is sitting outside squawking for her siblings but anytime she sees me she bolts for the woods. 😑 there wasn’t even water out there so I just put some out so she doesn’t die of dehydration but I’m hesitating to put out food. I don’t even know how long she was out there before I found out because I was out the door for work at 8am and didn’t get home til 6pm.
