Catching my darned hens.

My dad and I were just talking about this the other day! He said when they used to have chickens growing up they had a long wire with a hook on the end that they would put around the chicken's feet to catch them. I haven't tried it though.

Take a wire coat hanger or a heavy piece of wire about 3 or 4 feet loong and bend a hook in the end and hook them by the leg. There are discussions on the Inventions thread. You can catch them before they realize you are trying.

Hey Peachygirl. Iam from Peach County too. I live just outside of Powersville. I didn't see your post before I posted. We used these hooks when I was growing up and I use the now. I keep a couple hanging on my run fence. I can pull a chicken out of the flock before anyone realizes what is happening.

I purchased chicks off a gentleman that raised pheasants and he had a large net that he used to catch all his birds, even the babies. I thought it was quite innovative and it seemed to work well. Maybe purchase a net with a long handle, throw down some chicken scratch and when they get close nab them? I always catch my birds at night when they're roosting because they can't see well and they don't struggle as much. Good luck!
