we recently got one of those cardboard cat stratchers for our cat, you place catnip in the crevaces to intice the cat to use it. she has used and abused it to the point of turning it upside down and shredding it. now that we cleaned up the mess, and placed it right - side up again she is just sitting on it like its her bed. makes me think she's addicted to the catnip and the scratcher is the "patch" like smokers use.

We call catnip 'pot' for cats. They get SOOOOOO nutty when they get to eat it fresh!

We like to say to them; 'Say nope to dope!'

My vet told me that only about 80% of cats react to catnip. Hmmm at my house it is 100% We have it growing wild under the lilac bushes but it is all covered in snow for now.

One of my sisters' cats doesn't seem to react to catnip. The other one, gets WASTED on it! She acts drunk! lol

Both of mine seem to act goofy over it, the male even more that the female. They want to roll in it, not eat it. It's fun to watch

We have the same kind of scratcher for KiKi. She scratches for awhile and then lays on top of it. The look on her face clearly says, "Dude! Let's order a pizza!"

Yep, that is what I heard too... I've had 4-5 barn cats... NONE responded to catnip. They all looked at me like I was an idiot for giving them weeds. They preferred grass and barn mice. Catnip also grows like mad around here. It was my mistake too. When I was a little kid I wanted a canip plant. Parents bought me a packet of seeds and I tried to start some in a pot.... well, nothing grew after a month so I just tossed the pot outside.... it's everywhere now!

I got one of those carboard scratcher-thingies at Trader Joe's for my my Kitty-Cat-Peeps. They took to it instantly and they just loved it. The catnip included must have been nice and fresh because they had never been interested in the old stuff I had.

But today, tragedy struck the scratcher-thingy. In my rush to get out and get set up at the Farmers' Market, I apparently did not allow my Pit Bull enough time to take care of bidness this morning, so by the time I got back, she had dragged the scratcher-thingy into the middle of the kitchen floor (off the carpet and onto the linoleum) and peed on it. What a smart dog, eh? It was a $7.00 pee, but at least the mess was fairly well contained.

Totally my fault.

Got our cats this scratcher that hangs from the door knob and you put dried cat nip in the bottom of it.
Well it is completely shredded and the stuffing is all gone.
One cat went completely nuts for it the other three had fun with it too.
