My burmese cat "Charlie Brown" is freerange, so are the chooks.
He has never tried to hassle them, and he doesnt hassle the pigeons either.
I guess it depends apon your relationship with the cat.
If you2 share a special bond and the cat can read your mind ~ he wont touch them.(those of you with spoilt cats will know what im talking about)
If you just have a cat as a garden accessory and dont have much to do with him except to feed him etc, well you wont have the "connection" and he probably will have a go at the chickens.
