Cats around chickens

My cats have never bothered the chickens but I wouldn't trust some of them not to make a possible try for a chick straggler with a free-ranging mom... But moms being as they are the cat would probably be sorry... I have 12 cats (inherited 5 when my mom died) none bother the chickens, but they like to sleep on a bench near the chicken coop and if I sit there they will watch the chickens with me. They could get into the coop but never do. The cats hunt and keep down the population of mice, rats, and pesky ground squirrels and I wouldn't want to be without them (the cats). The cats hunting and eliminating those pests also keeps the rodents from attracting other less civilized predators, like hawks, snakes, foxes, skunks, opossums and such as that.
