Cats hunting my chickens

I think it’s best to first try the diplomatic approach, and if that doesn’t work, resort to more violent ways to solve the problem. If your neighbors are reasonable, they’ll probably see what you’re saying. If your pets get out or are let out and are killed, that is on you... but I still wouldn’t like it if someone killed my cat without telling me he was a problem in the first place.
In our town you make the newspaper and usually pay bail if you kill someone’s pet

My chickens are kept securely in their house with a secure & very large attached run in which to wander. When we let them out to free range, we supervise them. They don't get out. They are always in their own yard, minding their own business.

Can I just ask a question without getting yelled at...oh, first..let me just say...most of my chickens are free range. So, are these free range chickens were discussing or all in a coop?
I won't yell at you sorry:frow....

Um they had the option of a coop but prefer the trees. And they have free range of the whole property. I don't think I could catch them to lock them up any way:lol:.

I’ve said before, I would talk to the neighbors first. They may not know their pets are wandering. I’m all for giving a chance. Maybe two. Depending on how much damage is being done. Happily, my nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. They have a dog that stays home and no other animals. We live on a farm and our buildings are surrounded by crop land, so my chickens stay home, as does my dog. But we have had neighboring dogs find their way here, and they were returned home because they didn’t kill anything and it wasn’t a constant problem. We did have one neighbor who put his own dog down because it wouldn’t stay home. He was doing what he thought was the most responsible thing and being a good neighbor by fixing his problem.
That sounds so nice I would love it if I was that far away from people and had a bunch of crop land. I love farming:D...

I’ve looked through this post and find it deplorable that people recommend killing someone’s pet without even talking to its owner first. I haven’t seen where the OP has actually witnessed the cat killing a chicken.
Nobody was saying that I don't think any way:oops:. I would definitely talk to the neighbor first .. The last thing I want is a angry neighbor.

Nope, you had it right. That is exactly what I was saying.

Accidental escapees notwithstanding, if you love your animals keep them confined to your house and your property. If not & they get into trouble, it won't end well for someone. There are all kinds of things that pose dangers to pets and I am the least of the issues...until trouble comes over the property line.

There have been lots of accidental escapees running around the area. Whether or not I know the animal, I am all about reuniting it & the owner... unless it's a threat to my chickens. Then it goes into the light.

I don't tolerate predators.

I didn’t mean YOu specifically...lol...I just wanted to be able to ask the question...:). So, your turkeys are getting hunted by cats? I’m asking because I can’t imagine my chickens choosing trees over their coop...:)
