If anyone ever tells you that cats will not harm a full grown hen please send them to talk to me.

Today was the second time in two years I have lost hens to neighbors cats. This time it was a white ameraucana hen. I know it was the cat because I was about 300 ft from the coop when it happened. Literally tore her neck apart after jumping on her.

Last year it was two Orpingtons three days apart. Caught that cat in the act and pierced its ears with and arrow.

Ohhhh! Old ladies like my wife will skin you alive for hurting a cat. Be more discrete in the future. And for what it is worth, if you can sneak the corpse into the street, it is the city's responsiblity to remove the body. Just ring up the sanitation department and report it. It is not that I am so dishonest, but the soil here is rock hard.

I beleive it though outdoor cats can be like wild animals- you should've seen the nasty feral cat I caught in my live trap. That thing was VICIOUS to say the least.

Awwww, kstaven...I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with the others tho.....go talk with your neighbor about your loss. And...just let them know...one kill deserves another....if ya know what I mean.

kstaven,
I am like you if you hurt my chickens then I will hurt you. I like to have cats around my place to keep the mice down and whatnot, but when it comes to my chickens if they interfer with my chickens egg laying they get a little buckshot. And yes present your neighbor with a bill for your loss. So sorry about your chicken.
