Speaking of stupid people who encourage loitering wildlife, we have people in the next block over at our California house who have an enormous pile of garbage in their backyard. Rats wander their fences and roof at night, and there appears to be at least one skunk living under the mess. Their next door neighbor, a friend of mine, notes that her golden retrievers have repeatedly brought her baby possums this summer. The dogs don't hurt the possums; they just carry them up to her - they really do have soft mouths.
