Armadillos, (anteaters), eat insects and grubs, a few species eat only ants. It was probably around the chickens looking for worms and such that find chicken poo a perfect place to live... eww.

Dillos are not carnivours, but they could cause damage to your coop/run areas. they were attracted by the scent of the area.

Actually at our place we have a symbiotic relationship with the Dillos and our cats.
As you all know, cats need to dig a small hole to bury their business in.
And, as you all know, the Dillos leave little pot holes from digging up grubs.
All you have to do is reach a happy medium/balance with the critters by having enough cats to fill in all the Dillo holes in your yard.
From our experiments, it takes 2.4 cats to cover 1 nights foraging by 1 dillo......then all you need do the next day is gently tamp the dirt back flat and you have a nice lawn.
