Yep, that's a ground squirrel all right. You can tell by the spots. They're harmless, though, and chickens often chase them away.

My DH and three sons all do their business along the perimeter of our property and it has kept the coyotes and fox away. The deer don't care about the force field we've created. I know that coffee grounds from Starbucks and marigolds keep the bunnies away from my flowers. I imagine there is something the squirrels wouldn't like. Our garden center sells Bobbex-R. Here's their ad. below. I've used the Bobbex for deer when I have new plants trying to take hold and cannot handle the nibbles from the deer. Good luck!
