So this morning my roo and hen were making all sorts of noise. Later that day I found my first egg:D. The problem is they are now 15 wks old and my boyfriend still hadn't built the nest boxes. Had plans to build this weekend but thought we still had more time. He's currently building while I type this. Does this seem early? Also my roo has been trying to mate with my hens for a couple weeks now...so does this mean the one who laid an egg will now let him?All five hens and my roo are about 15 weeks old.Do they seem overly mature or is it me?

Aww, the kids are growing up

I think it depends on the breed of chicken that you have, and also just the bird itself. Different chickens will mature at different rates, but some breeds will generally start laying earlier than others. Congrats on the first egg... Any pics?!

Thanks for the feed back this is a pic of the egg and were I found it. Hope it shows up as I'm not sure that I'm doing this right

So glad I'm not the only one! One of my 6 reds ( could be RIR, Red sex link, or Red Delaware)

feed store bought at 3 days old. Gonna be 14 weeks tomorrow and has laid 2 eggs. One Sat., one yesterday. I hope they will be ok, they are really small eggs.

Congrats on the eggs.

You are doing nothing wrong. Some people raise their chickens on the floor. Having coop "furniture" is not a requirement.

They will get bigger.. My TSC RSL girls laid at 15 weeks and now 3 weeks into laying their eggs are about the size of medium/large store bought egg size!!.. First ones were tiny..lol
