Caulking the cracks

I'm about to seal/stain the inside walls of this new coop to brighten things up.
The floor will have BlackJack Rubr on it.

My concern is that the small openings in the wall lap siding boards will allow the inside stain to drip through to the outside. (using a more natural wood color on the outside)
You can see daylight coming through in the pic below.

I can put a small bead of caulk in there to stop the drips, but I'm unsure if the birds will peck at the caulk and get sick from it.

Is this going to be an issue?

Don't wet your brush so much that it drips, and it won't ooze through the cracks. It doesn't need to be laid on so thick that it drips. Stain can also be applied by rubbing it into the wood with a cloth, so try that instead of a brush. Brushes can hold more liquid between the bristles than a cloth, and can drip if the brush is too full and you push too hard, but with a cloth you have more control.
