This morning I found one of my hens, dead.
She was laying on her head, no predator has killed her though... I think?
I'm guessing old age, a sickness or injury.
I don't know her age, she was my grandmothers chicken but she died recently so they're mine now.
Well now the chicken is dead, just like her 🤷‍♀️

But is it possible to tell what she died from?

Found her like this in the chicken coop ^^^^

Someone mentioned that you can send her in for a necropsy on another post I read. I’ll see if I can find that post and link it for you. Put her in the fridge and send to your state lab within 48 hours.

I recently lost a hen with no signs of illness as well. During my research I read about Sudden Death Syndrome in chickens. Unless you were there to see the moments before, you can’t really confirm if that was the case. But one of the common indications is finding a hen on its back.

I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️

Sorry for your loss. Older hens may die from reproductive disorders, crop problems, heart or liver failure. So hard to know without performing a necropsy at home by yourself, or having a vet or poultry expert do one. Since you are in Sweden, you may have to find someone. I have done many at home to look for cancers, internal laying, crop and gizzard issues, and liver disease. Pictures (if you do one) of the abdominal organs may point to certain diseases. Here is a good video which shows major organs and labels them:
