Hello again duck community!

For months now my drake, Firefly, will sometimes get a foamy eye. Once or twice it was in both, but for the most part it is only in the left eye. It doesn't happen very often; he got it for a few days a pretty long time ago but it was never serious or consistent enough for me to worry and treat. Then every now and again I'd see a small amount of bubbles in his left eye, but nothing severe.

Just the other day I noticed he had a lot of foam in the left eye, covering about half the eye. I was just out there tonight checking on them and noticed he had it again. (Covering about half the eye) It always clears up, usually within minutes while I'm still out there.

I think my mom heard once it could possibly be caused by stress, (I don't know why he would be stressed though) and I know a big thing why it appears is because of a respiratory infection. However, he shows no other symptoms, and he's not exposed to large amounts of uncleaned feces, and I keep their water as clean as I can.

I was just curious--are there other reasons why he is getting a foamy eye then an infection? Should I treat him? I know one of the feed stores near us carries Vet RX, which I've heard is a great thing to treat foamy eye with.

I don't want to meddle if it's nothing serious, though.

Thank you!

Foamy eye is like a cold in the eye. Make sure there is always fresh water deep enough for him to dunk his head and nares in. Also, I know a few members who had success adding apple cider vinegar to the duck's water and it helped clear it up (they provided a container of fresh and a container acv treated water).
