It all started when I was eating at a crab boil. When we finish eating our crabs we throw the shells in a bucket. Later, I dump them into the chicken coop for the chickens to peck at them because it gives the yolks a nice, dark orange color and a great taste. It's also a great souce of protien for them. But of course there has to be a catch. Crabs have barbs on the side of the shell. So, I had never thought about it, but it happened. One of my hens must have stepped on one because she was limping pretty badly. I looked at the bottom of her foot and there was nothing to be seen. After about a week and a half of taking it easy, she seems to be doing just fine.
