wood&feathers :

Are we talking pepper flakes or powder here?

What Anne bought at Sams is powder, but I'm thinking Chook-A-Holic is talking about pepper flakes, a size the chickens could see and peck at to eat.

I'm wondering what form the pepper is in.. powder, flakes or..?

Never heard of using it to get hens to lay but some put in feed as a rodent deterrent. When I had a bad mice problem mixed cayenne powder in the feed.. seemed to work a bit in keeping mice out of the feed buckets.

Whoops, some already responded as I typed..

I just wanted to clarify that I use the peppers mainly for rodent control. It does work, the rats and mice(and most bugs) can't stand to get a hold of it. Especially if they cant find water. If it does indeed help with egg laying, that's just another plus of using it.

I just now read your post to Anne. She said that she has never heard of cayenne pepper flakes; however, she showed me that she has a small jar of "crushed red pepper", but I don't think that red pepper is the same thing as cayenne pepper. Does your jar say "Cayenne Pepper Flakes"? If so, I'll pick some up this week.

I've always just used the red pepper flakes. I don't know the specifics of which pepper it actually is but they are HOTT!!!...and they work.

Could you give sort of a recipe for making that cornbread please. Could I make it in a skillet?

Here we go... something told me I was going to get hungry during this thread.
