Cayuga duck questions

Hi there,I really want to raise some cayugas but I have some questions first.Ive been researching them and found out that they are suppose to grow pretty fast can anyone how big they would get around 10 weeks?Also will the hens go broody and are they decent mothers?Would they tolerate a run or do they need to free range?I heard that the first eggs they lay are really dark brown is this true?How well do they go with other breeds of ducks are they nice or aggresive and are they good foragers?And lastly if the ansewers come out of what im hoping for how would a cross inbetween a jumbo pekin male and a cayuga?Im hoping it would have good foraging skills yet still grow out really fast.Sorry for so many questions but any info would be appreciated.thanks

Hi,
I can't answer most of your questions, but regarding how they get on with other breeds of ducks and aggressiveness:
I have 3 Cayugas in my mixed flock along with some Khaki Campbells and Rouens. They get along fine with the others. Both the Rouens and the Cayugas are quite a bit bigger than the Khakis, and the Rouens will knock the smaller ducks out of the way at feeding time, but the Cayugas are a little more laid back.

They are so beautiful... and the little black ducklings are just about the cutest ever. Enjoy!

I have 3 cayugas myself. They get along great with my pekins and f/w runners. As for the eggs, mine are a med brown in color and I noticed tonite that my female was setting on about a doz.eggs. They are great foragers.

Hi there,
I am also getting 2 Cayuga ducks this spring. I will be extending the chicken coop and making a seperated section for them to house in overnight. My question is...Do I have to make nest boxes for them or do they just nest on the floor with bedding? I've heard some birds preferr Not to nest in a cavity.
Also, should I raise the floor slightly so water can drain from the bedding? I thought this may help to keep the mess down.
I'm pretty stumped as to what the best way is.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
