Im thinking of hatching cayuga ducks because ive heard they are one of the more quiet breeds which is a must because i have close neighbors... ive also heard that males are much quieter than females but here is my dilemma- i need quiet ducks, so i was thinking of males. but 1) no eggs than

and 2) is it possible for the males to live together? i would probably keep 2 ducks...and i read that the drakes would fight and injure each other. and if i got a male and a female than they could mate and my mom would KILL me if i came up with any more ducklings

..... help!!! any advice anyone???

Well, if you want eggs you are definitely going to have to get females, since the cayuga is already a quiet duck then the females should be quiet enough to suite your needs. Eggs will not hatch unless fertilized and incubated so simply collect the eggs, eat, and sell them. Simple as that. I would suggest getting two females or a girl and a boy. I'm thinking two boys will fight but then again without a female to spur them on they might get along fine...I'm not sure I've been any help at all but that should give you a slightly clearer picture.

I had a Cayuga pair (until a predator killed the female as she was brooding a nest of eggs) and they are wonderful ducks. VERY quiet - the female seldom quacked at all. The two of them gabbled together quietly, and in the year I had them both, I believe I heard Thelma quack loudly only about five times when she was REALLY annoyed or startled. Louie was much more talkative but it was not full on quacking, just conversational gabbling about ducky things he wanted to tell me.

My cayuga female rarely made noise. She laid well but wasnt really the broody type. I think she tried to co brood a nest once and then just gave up on it and let my magpie take over. I had her for 3 years and i always had to have someone else brood her eggs. two males will live together just fine with no females about, and i think the males are a little less skiddish.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Thelma was over a year old before she actually went broody; up until this Spring, she would lay her daily egg just any old where and walk away. Then she started looking for nice places to lay 'em, but still wouldn't sit on the nest. It made it very easy to gather her eggs, unless she decided to lay 'em in the mud next to the kiddie pool. Or IN the pool!

Love duck eggs! Just gather them and there won't be any ducklings.

thank you for all your comments guys! i am so excited for this, i really hope my parents will be willing to share such a rewarding experience with me
