Hello! My flock has 3 adult female ducks, 2 adult male ducks, and a juvenile female and male duck (7 ducks). Recently, we decided to give away the 2 adult male ducks to a friend. Although they were nice to humans and let us pick them up, they would bully the other ducks (they would rip off the neck feathers of the females and injured one of the ducks' leg) and were extremely territorial. They were also over mating. But even with those two troublemakers gone, one of the female ducks, Hazelnut, has been quacking loudly and constantly, as though searching for them. I am considering bringing the 2 males back, but how would I make sure the female ducks wouldn't get hurt? I feel bad about giving them away, and separating the males and females does not really work out. What should I do to help Hazelnut, and should I bring the males back?

I am not advising bring back the drakes, but likely the reason your duck hen is upset is because 1 of the drakes was her current mate. Duck hens will choose mates in late winter. They do not always choose the same mate each year. Do to the way domestic ducks are often lopsided in numbers and only a small sampling to choose from, multiple hens may choose the same mate.
Your duck hen will settle into being content with who is currently in the flock in a short time.

You should have 4 females for every one male. Sure you could bring back the Drakes, but if you do you need to add several more females. They can literally mate the females to death.
