Cayuga enthusiasts here!

400

I have 3 Cayugas. 2 drakes and a hen and this year 1 pure Cayuga duckling plus 10 cross ducklings with my Blue Swede, Buff Orp and Khaki hens.

O.K. We started out with a mixed duck order that included one Cayuga. So, we thought, she is so sweet let's get some more little Cayuga ducklings...

They were a mess to brood but worth it all when we were able to move them outside at 10 weeks of age since our weather had turned nice. They loved being outside but were not quite ready to go into the big field...

Finally a few weeks later they were feathered out enought let out into the bigger field with their pool and plenty of foraging to do...

When they were about 18 weeks old they started laying eggs. One here and one there until suddenly one morning everyone seemed to catch the egg laying bug and...

Now we have more duck eggs than we can use between the Cayugas, the Khakis and the Blue Swedish so we donate a lot to a local food panry. Also, they love grasshoppers so a couple of times a week I let them out onto the acreage and "herd" them around while they pig out on bugs.

There are few things in life that give me the pleasure of my birds and the Cayugas give more than their share.
