Cayuga Laying questions: Please give me answers

This is my first Cayuga egg. She laid it today. She is five months old. Not sure why, but tons of references on the web say they dont lay until 10 months.

Mine are 8 1/2 months old and not laying yet. I think it’s a combination of genetics and time of the year they become “of age” to lay. If it’s in the fall they won’t lay until longer days start in the spring.

I think this is true. Because my Cayuga’s came “of age” in about October, but didn’t lay anything. I’m in Idaho, so winter starts early and lasts a while for us. I got my first eggs today, (5!!!!) now that it’s warmer and we have enough daylight.

Finally got my first egg on March 17th, so they were 10 1/2 months old when they finally started. The other one started 2 days later and I’ve gotten an egg from both of them every day since! I guess they’re catching up!
