We are pouring a concrete pad for the coop this weekend out back. I will use pine shavings INSIDE the coop/pen (8 by 16 ft) but the yard has year-old cedar bark as ground cover all around that area.

There is grass they can graze on when they are free ranging if they want but the cedar will be around their coop. It covers to keep weeds down in all the back beds and paths.
Will it harm them to have cedar in the yard like that?
How far away from coop do I need to rake the cedar back?

County laws say the coop needs to be that far away from neighbors and dwellings so can't move it in.

Advice welcome.

If it's older and been there a while, no problem... And since there is so much air ventilation no problem with fresh cedar anyways...
