I understand that cedar shavings are toxic to chickens, but is it OK to have a cedar log in their run for them to perch on?

Absolutely safe, no worries at all

Whew! Thanks, Pat. They seem to love sitting on it and pecking at it, so that makes us both happy!

By the pole in the middle of the run there is cedar log the hens love to roost on it during the day.

Oh, awesome to hear, we cut down several cedars this year and I've been eyeballing them for use in the run. Whew!!

Cedar shavings have so much surface area. A log is *nothing* compared. Especially out in the open air of the run.
I used a cedar branch for an outdoor roost and my birds loved it.

I also have a cedar log in their run and cedar roosts inside their coop. No problems!
