Cedar or Pine for Pigeon Coop Flooring

I have had very good luck with organic pine bark / mulch. Happi Gro is the brand I believe and it sells for around $3 a bag at Lowes. My coop is 3 ft wide and 16 feet long. Set in dirt on the ground. I live in Central Texas and have a very open coop design. I use five bags and that gives about 5 inches of depth. I scoop the entire thing out down to the ground every six months and dump new bark. The old bark breaks down nicely and makes fantastic fertilizer as well. Bugs have not been a problem. I sprinkle Sevin dust around about once a month. My birds are healthy and I have not had any issues with using this deep litter method.
