I've read a few things about how cedar is not good
for chickens / their respiratory system. I'm currently
shingling my new coop.... with cedar shingles... and all
of sudden it dawned on me... is this a problem??
The coop is outside (obviously)...so the chickens are not
really in contact with the shingles... but wondering if this is
a problem. thanks for the help.

I am doing the same thing..they smell nice don't they? But I don't think that they would do any harm being on the roof and all. Plus there is a layer of tar paper between them (chickens) and the cedar. I could be wrong of course but cant see how any fumes could go downwards to affect them JMO

Nope, utterly fine, will not harm them at all, no way no how

Good luck, have fun,
