In with the chickies!
hi umm I know this has probably been asked at least 100 times already but ... I have 12 baby chicks and use ceder shavings I know its bad for them but its all I have and I won't be able to go to the store for a long while. what should I do? they all look quite healthy to me though. they are running and eating and doing their lil chick thing. if there is ANY advise you can give me it'll help. i want whats best for my chickys.

yes true. better safe then sorry but i don't think paper towls whould be the best bet either

i chould be wrong though.

Paper towels won't harm them.. a lot of people use paper towels. I used them for the first few days so the chicks could figure out where their food was ;) they didn't bother with them either, pecked a few times but didn't try eating them.

their about 3 weeks. also should i shred the paper towls or just leave them square? as you can tell i'm pretty new at this! lol these are my first chicks so i have ALOT of questions!

haha ask away ! I am new as well but have been stalking awhile and asked PLENTY of questions. I kept mine square to cover the pine shavings...I would keep them square so it doesnt encourage them to eat the shreds ;)

alrighty then first thing tomorrow morning i'm going to clean out the cage and put down the paper towls! this has nothing to do with the bedding but what time do you think i should move the chicks in thir coop? i heard about six weeks. is this right? also whould you be able to help with this little problem? https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

well it all depends. i will be moving our in their coop at around 4 weeks but by then it should be 70-80 F here during the day. I would wait until they are mostly feathered and you can gie them a heat lamp at night so they dont chill. I'll go look at that thread now :)
