Chirping
Purchased four young hens to add to my flock of six. Added them at night so they could all wake up together and go out foraging. The four new girls didn't go back to the coop. I caught one within a few days and placed her in a large cage with food and water within the coop. We tried setting out day traps and luring them with food. We tried finding where they were nesting at night (too high up in a tree for us to safely grab). All four managed to stay alive. The three that still weren't going to the coop stuck to our yard with our original six for treats and food. They all seemed to get along (they also got along with our cats) so we couldn't fathom what we should do before the snow starts flying.
Tonight I asked my husband if it would be funny if they were in the coop right now. He opened his coop camera app on his phone. Sure enough, two of the three were in the coop. We went out there to open the cage for the first one I caught. We just have to keep crossing our fingers that the fourth new hen follows suit soon and that the three in there now can forage tomorrow and go to bed at night before the electric door closes
Added bonus, at least one of the new hens is laying eggs. We had a total of five eggs today.
