each 4x4 post has a footing. there are 8 in total with my setup.

Yes......with a post bracket.
This is how I did my deck posts:

So what i’m seeing with these is you dig down, put the sonotubes down into that hole, pour the concrete and set the 4x4 post into the wet concrete? Is that correct?

no, i used a post bracket like @aart suggested.

Yes, but put the bolt for the bracket in the wet cement.
