Hello, we are newbees to BYC and need some advice on which chickens would be best for the central florida climate. We'd like to begin with 3-5 chickens primarily for egg laying.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not much more experienced than you, we've had our chickens about a year and a half...
With that said, we live in SW FL and I found that the chickens that did the best this year were my Easter Eggers. Black Australorp and brown or white leghorns laid very well this year too. We had problems with coyotes and the stress level was up - EE laid through coyote stress and did the best during our "winter" months when the light was less. Welcome to the wonderful world of chickens! Enjoy!

My personal opinion from breeds that I have had was BO was the quietest and tamest at the time. I had 3RIR, 1GC, 1BR, and 1BO. I have had several types of breeds. Now I have 5BA, 2EE, 1BLRW, 1NN, and 1WO. This time around one of my EE's is the tamest, so tame in fact I have to be careful not to step on her because she is always under foot.
