CENTRAL FLORIDA SWAP MEET for June 20, 2009

Ok, I know there were a couple people who wanted to go in on a turkey poult order with me, but I can't remember who it was.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get my act together on this, but everything's been so crazy with buying the new house that I just haven't had time! I'm going to put the order in at the end of the week, so let me know what you want by then. Here's the website if anyone is interested:

Hey Kelly,
I was one of those people. I would like 4 White Royal Palms. If you don't get the minimum of 15 let me know.

I would love some more but seem to have the hand of death lately

I don't think I'm going to buy anymore until I find out either what I am doing wrong or they are older than 2 months.
I'm tired of being the turkey killer

Barbara - I am sorry. Out of the 4 poults you gave me at the swap only 1 is still alive. The little chicks and everything are great. It's just the poults I am having such a time with. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing wrong. The other ones I hatched I only have 1 left from them - thankfully he is doing fantastic. I wish I had the good luck with them that you do. I did move EVERYONE out of the feed room. The heat with lack of circulation was really stifling in there....The poults weren't there though, they were still in the house brooder very closely watched. I am taking my brower brooder apart and totally sanitizing it this week before anything else goes in it. I am also moving it next to the covered carport where it will have better air circulation.

I can do the 18th as well but would really like to be closer to Ocala if possible...

You can have it at your house if you want. I'll still come up for it.

Hey guys! That OEGB bantam that I got this past Saturday, this afternoon, I noticed his comb was alittle more purple at the top and was drooping over alittle more than normal. He is acting totally normal and has no symptoms of any kind. Has normal appetite, breathing and poop. I did leave him in his cage for about 3 hours before realizing I forgot to put his water in with him. When I let him out he did drink alot, and I noticed it was drooping alittle more and the purple area was bigger. He is an inside bird, meaning he lives in the house with A/C with us.LOL! And is not around our other birds too much. I take him out to free range a few hours a day and any time I go outside to have a smoke break. When my wife came home she noticed it too, so it wasn't just my imagination. We took him out and she ran around with him for a while, getting him to chase her to get some exercise. We noticed before we came back in that it was perking back up and not so purple. I also kept him outside with me yesterday for several hours and it was very hot. I wondered if it could be sun burned, and if so what do we put on it. Or could it happen if they are dehydrated? Or could it be lack of exercise? As it seemed to perk up after running around...but he also had just drank alot of water. I just dont want to wake up and it be worse again, and not know what is causing this. As you can guess this is a VERY spoiled and loved bird.

ANY ideas and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS!!!

Hey Mark,
Not quite sure what could be going on with him. I would think as long as he is acting ok that he probably is ok. They are pretty good at letting us know what they aren't feeling well. I have noticed it with some of my birds in the past but don't think I ever did anything for it. Maybe he's a bit cold if he's in a drafty area in the a/c? Just a thought..........
Anyhow, I hope he's ok - He's way too cute for anything to happen to him. The rosecomb that I got (the one that was with him) is doing excellent. She is so dainty she should be a house bird LOL!!

Please let me know how he's doing

Hullo Tricia!
We keep the AC set at 76*, and his cage is covered with a blanket when he is in it. Hoping he was just a ittle stressed and maybe a little dehydrated. Over all he is great! Runs around, crows, eats, sleeps and poops. LOL! Someone else suggested that maybe he was lonely for other chickens and alittle depressed. But he is still in quarantine and won't be around them for a couple more weeks. I do wish now that I would have bought one of those rosecombs to keep him company. When will yours be ready again? Maybe you woulld want to give her up? LOL!

My little oegb's should be off the light in about another 4 weeks (and easier to sex). I only have 2 so I know how my luck runs.

Were you interested in the rosecomb? She has been in with the chicks that I got at the swap. She is the smallest chicken I have had in a while.....

I went out last night to feed and had to kick 3 broody hens off of 1 nest box sitting on 1 (one) egg. I wish I had my camera with those 3 heads looking at me!!! I know they are probably back out there on it again. You would think they would have heat stroke or something.....
