Hey so my neighbour a few streets over gave me some really beautiful chickens said they were getting overrun after one of their hens went broody under their patio and now they have too many. Problem is we have this mental neighbour who is having a psychotic fit because we’ve stopped letting my underaged brother out in the yard with our dogs without a shirt on. He runs hot doesn’t like wearing t-shirts or tank tops in the heat but likes playing with the dogs. Problem is this grown man keeps making remarks about how he enjoys watching our yard out his window and keeps trying to greet my brother specifically every time he leaves the house for school. Never mentions our dogs only asks about my again UNDERAGE brother. But the local authorities won’t do anything unless is becomes physical and we have indisputable evidence he said she said gets us nowhere.
But now he’s going after our birds, he asked why he doesn’t see my brother out in the yard much anymore and dad was very clear when he explained ‘that’s why, that right there.’ Now the man’s having a psychotic fit reporting us for parking on the road when we are legally allowed to do so. They he reported our dogs barking to the humane society, they weren’t barking so it was a waste of trip for them. Next is the bylaw officer who’s getting calls about the chickens who are harming no one. But we’re far from the only ones with them, one house has chickens and ducks both in their front yard, 3 down from them has this huge coop, I’m talking massive walk-in with over 30 birds. 7 houses from them there’s a garage that was converted into a horse stable, they have a yard, not acres but they’re on the grandfather clock so they get to have a horse in a yard smaller than the one we have for our dogs. The house on top of the ‘welcome to Clinton’ sign has free range chickens that roam the front yard of that house. But ‘we’ specifically are a problem even though we got these from the neighbour 2 streets over.
We personally can’t do a thing about this without it becoming a witch hunt for us, we’re a visible minority family and I’m part of the lgbtq2t+ community which is absolutely not doing us any favors in this white supremacist town. And I don’t say this lightly. When we moves here my minority mother wasn’y allowed to get a post box in town only my white dad was allowed to sign for one. People in town kept banging on the door demanding to speak to my dad refusing to talk to my mother who answered the door because they wanted to make sure ‘he knew his wife is out back screwing around with his power tools’ dad was very clear when he explain he doesn’t know what half of them do, and those power tools are hers not his. Someone threatened to burn our house down with us in it. Dad reported to the police and the police told him to let it go that it was probably just some idle threat and hung up not even taking down the man’s name. Then a woman was locked in a bathroom while a man set the building in the middle of town on fire and that ‘idle threat’ stopped being a joke when it started happening to a couple of white families. This town is a hell hole for any minorities, females, or members of the lgbtq2t+ community. So I’m begging for some help. I’d like to stay anonymous in this but if anyone cares and is willing to help petition to allow us to keep these birds it’d mean a lot, it’s been the only bit of joy we’ve had in coming back to the house at the end of the day and the only reason this bylaw is even being enforced against us is because some creep wants to keep eyeing up my little brother and the man has friends in town hall or so he says so he warned if we try reporting him for watching my brother again he’s gonna set the town on us for every little violation they can think of.
Considering we’ve already had 6 visits from local authorities we have to believe him, everything from our front garden ‘de-beautifying the neighbourhood’ to our garbage bins being located in the wrong part of our driveway, supposed complaints about our dogs barking when they clearly weren’t. Someone claimed we had an illegal pitbull with rabies, it was a Chinese sharpei who gets excited on walks, the frothing isn’t rabies she does it when she gets excited she’s just a very drooly dog. Honest to god if anyone ever does set this place on fire I’m going to get the dogs out and my family out then I’m going to stay and burn with it, at least with a body this hellhole won’t be able to sweep that under the rug on the 5 o’clock news and people might start taking my family seriously when we try to explain that we don’t feel safe in our own home because of the people in this town and all that they keep getting away with. Anything would be worth keeping my family safe and getting creeps away from my brother even if it does mean we lose the birds. My brother named all 4 of them so it’s already going to be worse off for him, we tried offering to get him some budgies instead but he’s not having it he doesn’t want to lose his little friends.
