A few weeks ago me and my daughters decided to raise a few chicks. My neice's school class had just hatched a bunch of chicks, and the teacher was looking for homes for the chicks. We took four of the little boogers. We do not even know the breeds! I built a coop and an outdoor run in the backyard. About a week later, we decided to add two more chicks. My wife, one of my daughters, and myself went to a nearby hatchery to pick out a pair of chicks. Don't ask my how or why, but we came home with 10 more chicks and 2 ducklings.

We ended up with Barred Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island Red, Red Stars, and Buff Orpingtons. All of them are in brooders, inside for now. But due to the unexpected additions, I have to build a much larger coop. Luckily I built a large run!

I have found this forum to be very helpful, as I had absolutley no chicken know-how when we started. Everyone seems friendly and willing to share their knowledge.

from Ohio. Yep, chicks are like chips, you can't stop at a couple.

We also say here to make your coop as big as you can because it seems it is never big enough.
