Central TX chicken raising!

Thanks for the welcome! We’ve revamped the location of our chicken yard to be under the cover of trees. Plan to add more “hide-outs” in the chicken yard. Some of our losses were because we forgot to close the coop—it hadn’t become a habit yet! We are getting better every day at being chicken parents. :)

Hey y’all! We built our coop under the shade of a Live Oak tree a few years ago, leaning HEAVILY on this blog! We started with 8 (4 Barred Rock & 4 Salmon Favorelles) and have lost 6 to an owl, raccoons, and heat. We are ready to introduce our 4 new Leghorns (woops, I mean 3, lost one to hawk recently) so again, relying heavily on this blog! We’ve revamped the coop and chicken yard to get us going. Thanks for your expertise!
Welcome, I'm in central texas also and predators are about. That's part of being Texan. My losses were from hawk, and cara cara just keep trying, securing, guarding and praying. Are you free ranging?
