He will use whatever collar the owner is comfortable using even if it is a pinch collar. He doesn't use them on his own dogs. I haven't seen him use a shock collar, but then I haven't seen all the shows or read his books. I have no idea what flooding is, can you tell me? I don't see him using pain or fear to control a dog. In fact I have seen a dog that was afraid of people come to trust them using his methods (a person down the street was on the show). We use some of his methods with our dogs and it has worked wonderfully. Our dogs are some of the best behaved dogs I know and they are certainly not afraid of us. Not saying I think his was is perfect or the only way, but it sure has worked for us!

Caesar is about the only "Dog Expert" to come along in the past decade that actually makes any sense. His tactics saved the lives of several dogs, and he treats dogs like the animals they ARE, not psuedo-humans, not fashion accessories, not children like many people try to treat them as in todays screwed up society. I have seen time and time again, people get dogs like my Fergus,(a 150lb Neo Mastiff/Dogue de Borduex) and they expect him to be happy wearing little tu-tus and living in a tiny apartment and they get upset when it shreds things or barks all day, and they "Re-home" the dog or simply dump it at the pound and them move on to the next fashion accessorie, like Fergus's previous owner has done. Caesar gave me the courage and the skills I needed to take on my big boys re-training, and with those skills, I have saved a life and created a wonderful family member that is a much loved member of the pack. He is common sense, and his 'tsk" works well with children, too!

I absolutely love him! Since implementing his techniques, our dog has improved so much! I still have to work harder on the exercise part.

It's really not the dog's fault...... it is really the owner. (usually)

edited to add...... for me, his dog pack is proof enough for me that tv editing aside....... the man knows dogs

I like him, but I think his techniques aren't going to work on all dogs. Some dogs respond to positive reinforcement only, others don't. I've heard lots of people say that if you just get the Magic Right Kind Of Treat, the dog will do anything you want, but heck, my dog will turn down bacon, liver, and steak after about three little pieces. He's just not that into food. I've also heard the idea that once you establish that you are alpha by controlling the dog's movements and feeding times, it will do what you ask. Again, in my experience that only gets you so far. Some dogs are independent in temperament, and will do what you ask if they see your point, but only as a favor to you; once they feel you are being frivolous, they stop doing the trick--more cat-like in attitude.

Cesar is wonderful with the people who imagine their dogs are little humans, though.

I like him. Think he does alot of good. Lots of dogs saved that would have been put down. Realize, all dogs can not be saved, but he has done alot of good.

The worst type of dog personality to use Caesar's training on is fear aggression. BIG no-no and it will only escalate the issue.

Funny you should say that as I HAVE a dog that suffers from Fear Aggression among other issues of aggression and I tell you, using Cesars techniques on her has help IMMENSELY!

She is at least able to have a normal life now and has come around 110% from where she was before.

He is awesome. The only reason that he uses some of the products on tv that you see like the shock collor or the prong collar as that is what the owner wants, not what he wants to use.

I too am a cesar milan fan of his show. i learn new things with watching his show with my three pitbulls and 3 chihuahuas one chi is a mini dob and mix chihuahua so he can be a loud barker, he really helped me in the techniques used there.

and his dog daddy is so adorable.

He isn't saying ANYTHING that hasn't been said in good training circles for 30 years.

Much of what he does teach can be DANGEROUS in the wrong hands or with the wrong dogs.

He gets bitten so often (yes, it's edited out) that he's mocked in the local community.

He's been sued successfully because dogs subjected to his methods - in his "facility" have died or been injured by hanging.

If I could edit my life like he does his methods I'd look good too.

Rolling is bad practice. Hanging is bad practice.

People should treat their dogs like dogs and teach and require respect.

People should exercise their dogs.

But please, Patricia Burnham, Carol Lea Benjamin, the Volhards, Pat Miller, Burch and Bailey, Shiela Booth, Gottfried Dildea. Even the often wrong Monks of New Skete, said most of it before Cesar was a thinking human being.

Anything Cesar has said was said LONG before he showed up. He's got nice marketing. Dogs and people get hurt following his advice too often.

Any semi-intelligent method or choice to actually step up and train will bring around most dogs because they want to do what works. Once a human actually THINKS about training, whether the method is good or bad, dogs tend to respond.

Dogs have died because of what he's done. No, not a fan.
