Chair by the Chicken Coop Club

Forget a chair by the coop...I've always sat on a random brick inside the run!
My run is comprised of four 8x8 ft squares (small coop still in progress). I divided the lower quadrant in half and made a Chicken Observation Deck. It has a park bench at the moment but will be replaced with a porch glider bench. I'll eventually add a chair inside the run.

Behind that standing spool of hardware cloth, I will add a drop-down door/chute to throw in some treats if I don't want to sit inside the run.

They're in the garage for now and listen to Classical music 24/7. I may have to haul out one of my old relics to keep them entertained when they move out to the run while I'm out there...I have thousands of LP's to keep them entertained LOL.

Hi everyone! I was chatting with a couple of other folks on another thread about having a chair by the chicken coop and how our neighbors tease us. So I am curious: how many other BYC members also have seating by their coops? If ya got a pic, please post it! Any responders to this thread will become an official "Chair by the Chicken Coop Club" member!!! :frowView attachment 1183468
A favorite summertime pastime - hanging with my girls and drinking a Bud Light!

Pretty coop. Did you build it?

:clapluv it!

Thank you so much! I love to draw A LOT, and the end product is always different than what was originally on paper. The brain never stops with constant modifications.

I'm gonna put a chair near the front of the coop (swing-out french doors for cleaning, but still has a pop door built in) and throw some treats to entice them back into the coop at dusk in case they want to be difficult, and another chair in another part of the run to watch them dust bathe, scratch around and nap on outside perches.

Count me in for the Club, but I'm moving like a snail getting everything completed. --BB

Cool! You should write an article! :D

I have no idea of what I would write about.

Over the years, the main thing that I have learned is to use your brain and IMPROVISE when you don't have all the luxuries at your disposal. If something is too expensive, then I find a way to build it myself.

Folks use wood pallets, left over scrap wood from home construction, wood chips from the city tree cutters, wood ashes from BBQ's, pickup truck caps for for chicken tractors, chest freezers for storing feed etc., the list is endless.

As far as chairs go, you can keep it simple or elaborate as you want. I personally would want something that could be covered/folded up to keep the chickens from pooping on them. I don't mind them perching on the arms as long as their big fluffly butts face outward. In fact, I would welcome the fact that they would trust me that much to be so close to me, and maybe sneak in a few love taps and pets on occasion.

Oh wait...this post was intended for another thread where folks got ripped off by buying those flimsy pre-fab coops, and were thoroughly frustrated and had to learn how to build their own coops, runs etc., using what was available to them.
