im incubating some of my crested polish eggs and was really hoping for a white crested black chick. the mom and dad are not white crested black but the hen's father was.
so i was wondering how slim my chances at getting that colored chick? is there any chance of getting a white crested black or should i just go buy one somewhere?

here are a few pics of the hen and roo

I'm not the expert
but I'd give it 50/50
the black in the hen's parent was recessive to the dominant white
but will be dominant over the buff
There may be some other factors at play (dun?)
You could get a variety of colors
But my guess is half will be white
some or all of the rest will be black
I'll be interested to see if I'm right
but not shocked if we get surprised
these colors aren't carried on the same allele
so it can get complicated and will get more so
in successive generations

You won't get a white crested black. I'm also not sure how your hen's father is a WC Black because that hen looks splash, which would make it impossible for her father to be a black.

again I'm not expert but other than being Polish
just color pattern the hen looks like Austra White
Which is a cross between a black Austalorp and a white leghorn

Oh!, and just to add more confusion to the mix
40 some years ago I bred some AustraxWhites to AustraxWhites
The chicks were
some white with black specks like mom and dad
some black like the Grandpas
some white like the Grandmas
and some Blue
so I have to guess the White leghorns
carried the Blue/Splash gene

he is a pic of the chicks that i hatched, but i didnt get a wc black, instaed i got all black?? im confused
