I have an EE that has always laid tan eggs. Over the past two weeks I haven't been finding her eggs. I thought she was hiding them and have looked everywhere. Today I caught her in the nest box and watched to see if she would lay. I heard her egg drop so I know it was hers but now her egg is white. So all this time I thought she wasn't laying, she may have been and I just didn't know it was her eggs. I didn't think egg color changed. Is this a normal thing or does it mean she is lacking something in her diet?

What I've noticed with my older girls - the brahmas...

Their egg color goes in a cycle. Right after a molt, they are nice and darker brown. Towards the end of a laying cycle, the eggs get lighter and lighter until they are a creamy white. Then they molt and the cycle starts all over again.

Don't know if that happens with other breeds, haven't seen alot of it with my younger flock, just the brahmas.

She is an older hen, not sure how old guessing at least 2 but I have had her 8 months and she has not gone through a molt yet so we could be getting close. Thanks, at least I'm not doing something wrong, I really wondered.

2 years is old for you?!! Oh, ok. Well, my Cambridge Blue layed nice brown eggs with small spots during her first half year of egg laying. Then, after a short winter break, her eggs were suddenly much lighter and had lost the spots (she's one year old now). I have no idea why the colour changed. I thought it may have been because she is still young...

All of my other chickens are still under a year old so I'm not sure what to expect as they get older. She was given to my son as a gift in trade for his roo.
