Change in egg size - normal to small

I have a 16 month old Buff Orpington hen who used to lay normal sized eggs until this past spring. Then she stopped for a month or two and then started laying very small eggs. Now she lays about two small eggs a week. What happened?

This is an old thread, but wanted to bump it up because I'm going through the same thing. Our orp is about 13 months old now. She is going through a very minor molt, and all of a sudden, her eggs have dropped to 2/3 the normal size. I asked before and was told that molt makes eggs larger (which I didn't understand). But if it isn't that, what could be making her eggs smaller. I'm also pretty sure it's happening to another chicken as well. I've watched their poop, and didn't see any worms. She's also eating and drinking normal.

When chickens molt, their reproductive system gets a tune up...they'll start again with smaller eggs but ramp up to big ones more quickly than the first cycle.
