Change the food?

My chicks' feeder is a long, red plastic thing with two rows of holes going down each side. They haven't emptied it yet, since last Friday, I've just been putting new food on top. Is this ok, or should I dump it all once in awhile to keep it all fresh?

i dump mine every 2 - 3 days - feed is cheap chicks are not lol

I dump mine out on the ground in the garden for when I let them peck around under supervision. I figure it is teaching them to "free range" and look for food on the ground....chicken mama like.
