These past few months I have noticed that my flock hasn't been as happy or as together as they usually are. I watched my flock for over a month to see what the issue was and we realized that it was time to let Sid go.

Sid was our Black Jersey Giant cockerel. He would step on the girls heads or peck them while his brother Squatch was mating with them. This not only hurt our hens/pullets but made Squatch really angry. He just caused all kinds of drama in our flock.

Last night we removed Sid and rehomed him. We added HeiHei a sebright and what I saw this last night/this morning almost brought me to tears.

Pants (Cochin) was with the flock, I haven't seen her with the flock for several months. She would always seclude herself from everyone else.

The chicks (6 weeks) were able to eat scraps and their feed without being pecked or chased. Everyone is just calm and happy.

I was able to walk into the run for the first time in months without having a cockerel challenge me or stalk me. He always focused on me never the girls.

Squatch actually slept with HeiHei last night, which to me was a shocker. They didn't even fight each other. It was like they were long lost friends.

I can't wait to see what this change will bring in the months to come.

We tried everything possible to keep Sid in our flock, but he just wasn't the right fit. I raised him since day 1 so there was some attachment to him, but the health and wellness of my flock was/is more important than keeping a chicken who stresses everyone out.

Just wanted to share my experience with everyone...

This is a really good post, and I’ve had a similar experience. I used to have a few cockerels that would just terrorize the flock. Once they were gone there were no more issues.
It's incredible the difference that I have seen in less than 24 hours.

I'm kind of shocked that the new rooster I added is not fighting with anyone. He a sebright, which are tiny but I thought he would need an adjustment time. So far the ladies and Squatch love him.

We took out Sid and instantly put HeiHei in the coop. He is infatuated with my golden lace polish, but so far she's not amused by him.

Those little bantams can be real heart stealers, I’ve noticed

He's the cutest thing ever  I never thought I'd love a rooster that's tiny like him. He was free too so can't beat that!

Have removed several batches of cockerels and a neurotic hen.
With one cockerel group removal the change was immediate in how it affected the remaining cockerel, who was a bit older and pretty mellow in his pursuals...but once the youngers started their hormone flows he got nasty with the females....removed the others and within minutes he calmed down.

So far HeiHei has fit right in and this picture of Squatch is amazing (to me at least). He's so gorgeous and massive!

He has the perfect comb and everything about him is perfect, I think

Sweet story. :)
I used to have a Roo just like you’re sid he was a huge Black copper Maran who would stomp around and be awful to the hens to where my Lovely EE hen flower was completely removed from the flock she would sit in nest boxes all day sulking and occasionally forage I was mad at him so I rehomed him to a neighbor with a large flock and the flock changed flower was so happy the hens all were so excited! Sadly when he joined that flock he was so large he killed a hen :barnie they got rid of him:lau so he is an unlucky Roo
