Changing Chicken Laws in Smithfield, NC

Hello!
I am a stubborn gal who was told by her neighbors that chickens were illegal in our small town of Smithfield, NC. I want to be able to have a nice urban chicken coup and raise a few Silkie chickens. Im looking for like minded individuals to help create change in our little town. I would appreciate any help yall can offer and am looking for others to help get the ball rolling on changing this ordinance.

have you had any luck I want to buy a house in Smithfield and have seen one I want but I have 4 hens that must come with me I live in the city of Raleigh now and they are allowed there Smithfield needs to get with the times
