Changing chicks food

Agree, directions should be on the bag or label.
Some feeds are Starter 20% and say switch to Grower 15% at 6 or 8 weeks.
I use a Starter-Grower feed 18% and the directions are.

I don't switch to a Adult Layer feed.
I like the higher Protein 18-20% in a Non-Medicated Starter-Grower or a All-Flock/Flock Raiser feed.
I put Oyster Shells out after 16 weeks in a separate container.

But when I used to feed an Adult feed with my first Flock, I switched over by mixing the feeds 50/50 for 2 weeks when pullets Combs and Wattles turned red and swollen and the chicken squats when you put your hand over them.
My Golden Comets started to squat and Combs/Wattles were red around 15 weeks and started to lay at 16.5 weeks.
My Barred Rocks started to squat and Combs/Wattles were red around 18 weeks and started to lay at 20 weeks. GC

My birds eat Flock Raiser their whole lives, so it's never changed. The oyster shell is out there for the actively laying hens.
There's no one answer, it depends on what you are feeding now, what's available fresh at your feed stores, and who else will be eating the feed.

I have always used dumor crumbles layer for my laying hens and dumor chick starter.
