Changing comb and waddle color

My 3 girls reached their 18 week midweek, Wednesday. I was excited to see their combs and waddles starting to stay consistently red for the past few weeks. But since the coloring started coming and going at first, I noticed when I hold them and they are relaxed feeling with me, I can watch the color just fade as they calm. Curious if others notice this too? And I'm wondering if they would remain red right before they lay, despite being in a calm environment as an additional sign - for anyone else that has noticed or experienced it?

Just like turkeys' heads, chickens heads change with blood pressure. It is also a temperature regulator, so it will change with the environment. When a chicken gets excited, her face, comb, and waddles will become a brighter red.
It can also indicate a health problem if they become too pale over a long period of time, or if the become discolored.

That was sort of what I was thinking. Thanks for the information :)
