When can you start switching to pellets instead of crumble? Also when do you switch to grower? My 61/2 week old chicks found my ducks food (layer pellets) and went to town. So now I know to need to switch my ducks over to grower since the chicks are going to be helping themselves. They have free choice oyster anyway since they are all laying. I would like to only buy one bag of food and crumble and my ducks don't mix very well. Can everyone just be on grower pellets till my chicks are laying age and I will switch back to layer blend?

I think the key thing is the protein level for baby chicks to grow properly. game start and grow vs chicken start and grow. game is higher in protein ..not by alot but still higher. I've forgotten how long chicks need to be on start and grow. but like you I like pellets better than crumble less waste. I've have the chicks feeder in a catch pan cause they empty the feeder in less than 30 minutes but they dont eat it all. the catch pan gives them a second chance to feed on it. if the chicks are big enough I dont think the pellets will hurt them, not sure.

They are fine from the pellets and chowed down. If it is generally safe at this age for pellets I will be switching them to it. The ducks are on chicken layer and the chicks are on chick starter. No one in my flock needs to protein levels in game bird. What age do most people switch from starter to grower levels of protein?
