I bought some grit and scratch feed from TSC yesterday. I put both in seperate feeders for my chickens. Will this be ok?? They are about 8 weeks old and I really hope I am doing this right. Thank You for Your Time.

Think of scratch as a big bowl of ice cream, sure you probably could live on it, but it would not be all that healthy for you. That being said, every now and then, throw them a couple of scoops on the ground, they love it!

I dont know why I didn't ask you all first.

I had been given total WRONG info from somebody here local. I was told they needed to be switched to scratch feed. So I bought it and grit and put it with the chicks. I will get starter and grower today. Will they be ok until I get home at 7:00 tonight?? THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Scratch is good to put out a little in the evening, especially in winter. No more than 10 percent of their overall diet at most! But wait for them to grow up. That particular bag will probably be stale.
That is probably a very inexpensive way to raise chickens?

It wont be wasted I can guarantee. My mistake will be a treat to the goats and the chickens.

They'll be okay for the day. I feed starter until 16-18 weeks, just depends on how fast they mature.

Thank You a hundred times over ranchhand. I havent had chickens since I was a kid. This is all new. I just didnt want to harm them. Thanks a bunch.
