Changing topic: HELP just got intact egg out of egg bound hen.

Wow thom that is totally awesome! congratulations on getttin that egg out of there. good for you. I would prob give her some vitamins and electrlytes in her water to help boost her up. Poor thing. That happened to my hen I guess she just never acted like something was wrong and if it hadn't of been for the aggressiveness of the rooster pulling her feathers out and roughin her up a bit I may have never known. thankfully you found it in time before it got like my hen.

More yellow stuff after the fact. I didn't feel any other egg matter up there. She ate a little yogurt, but I'm still worried . . . I don't feel like we're out of the woods yet.

thom I would give her some antibiotic in her water. Just in case she may have been knicked with a piece of the shell or I just would do this as a safeguard. I am an over obsessor (sp). My hubby will agree. I think you did an amazing job. Good for you!

Oh yea since you are a chemistry teacher think you could help me with College Chem this fall. lol

Be happy to help you with chem. Thanks for all your advice. I am an overworrier too -- my husband can commiserate with yours, but I am reluctant to give meds just now. She still oozed a little eggy stuff this morning, but she is eating and drinking and generally chickening around with the rest of the flock. She's so happy with them, I hate to separate her again (she and I had altogether too much bonding yesterday -- it's good I have to go back to work on Monday). Frankly, I was more than a little concerned that she would be dead when I went to let them out of the coop this morning, so the fact that she's not acting at all sick is quite heartening.

i know when my hen was internally laying I gave her antibiotics not for the internal laying but for a cut she received from the roosters spur. The vet said this is what saved her from dying. the anti kept any infection away. but I am glad to hear that she is acting like herself again. That is such good news. I just wish I didn't have to have the surgery performed again on my hen, this time I will insist on a hysterectomy so she can live a happy life and not have to worry about eggs getting stuck all the time and having the surgery to correct it again and again.

good luck and i may just take you up on the offet to help with chem. lol Thanks

Lisa
