I am wanting to change my water from the big water tub to the nipples will the chickens know. Is this a good idea.

there shouldn’t be any issue with it. My chickens caught on very quickly to using it. I have a tub of water and the nipples and all of mine use both of them

My husband is building me a bigger coop and I was thinking o if that for outside. And maybe a small water inside

Best to teach them to use the nipples, either by picking them up (if they're tolerant of that) and using their beaks to toggle the nipple, allowing them to drink, and then repeating, or by pecking at the nipple with your finger to show them how it works.

I'd also remove any other water source during the training period to force them to use the nipples - for that reason I would not transition them over on an unusually hot day.

Oh ok! But in the winter could it freeze and make like icicles if it leeks? Even if it does not leak would the water be cold and pipes freeze also??
Many nipple waterers can take heaters. Mine has a built-in heater in the base: https://www.backyardchickens.com/reviews/premier-1-heated-poultry-waterer.11903/

There's no pipes in most nipple waterers. Some people do attach them to pipes instead of a bucket but that would not be recommended in cold climates due to increased risk of freezing.
